SEVEN ORANGE COUNTY FINANCIAL PLANNERS

NAMED AMONG THE 300 BEST IN THE NATION

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – Orange County Financial Planners, did very well in WORTH Magazine's third annual list of America's 300 best financial advisors.

Seven county-based financial advisors landed on the prestigious list which was published in the current issue (September).  These four represent 17% of the 41 on the list who practice in California.

Californians did almost as well as Orange countians, percentage wise.  Forty-one

California-based planners were named, representing almost 14% of the overall list.

 Orange County-based firms include:

            Carl Camp,                  CFP                 Fullerton

            Victoria Collins,            CFP                 Irvine

Neta M. Gegan,           CFP                 Garden Grove

Rick Keller,                  CFP                 Irvine

Laura Tarbox               CFP                 Newport Beach

            Violet Woodhouse,       CFP                 Newport Beach

Glenn Woody,              CFP                 Costa Mesa / La Quinta

The "CFP" designation stands for "Certified Financial Planner," highest rank in the financial planning field.  All the Orange County planners who made the list are certified.  Not all those on the list of 300 rate the designation.  To earn it, financial planners must undergo a number of requirements including passing a stiff six-part examination.

"Being a Certified Financial Planner requires one to practice to the highest of standards," according to Glenn Woody, who has been in financial services since 1971.  "Not only does it require education and experience, it also involves a continuing program of learning and a strict code of ethics which puts the interests of the client ahead of personal gain."

Like other professional advisers, Woody's firm provides financial consulting services and investment management for individuals, trusts, charities, foundations, companies, and qualified retirement plans.  "We nominees were subjected to close professional and personal scrutiny," Woody says.  "We must first be recommended by our peers, and then screened for any legal, fiscal, or regulatory improprieties.  We were also reviewed for the quality and clarity of our advice."

The magazine also asked nominees about their fee structures and stated that it favors fee-only planners which is the direction that the industry is taking.  Woody, who is on the list for the third consecutive year, explains that planners who charge by fee make their money by billing clients direct rather than from collecting commissions on such things as insurance policies and mutual funds.  "Fee-only planners accept either an agreed-upon fee or a percentage of the assets under management."  Woody says.  Seventy-two percent of the professionals on the WORTH Magazine list are fee-only planners.

Worth Magazine, published in New York, has a circulation of 510,000.  It links world and personal finance and economics with technology, politics and culture.  It examines investment issues related to the general interest of readers while providing information for financial choices and opportunities.
